Germany’s First Alpine 100-Mile Trail Running Challenge

The ZUT100 is the first alpine 100-mile trail running race around the Zugspitze, a groundbreaking addition to the Zugspitz Ultra Trail festival. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Zugspitze massif, the course spans 164 kilometers with over 8,300 meters of elevation gain. As the flagship race of one of Europe’s most iconic trail events, ZUT100 invites runners to experience the raw beauty of the Alps while pushing their limits. It’s more than a race - it’s a celebration of alpine adventure and the spirit of trail running.

COURSE UPDATE - YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY

Following close consultation with GeoSphere Austria as meteorological experts, alongside the mountain rescue teams, we have made adjustments to the ZUT 100 race.

THE SITUATION

Current weather forecasts predict challenging mountain conditions for the race weekend, including:
• High temperatures (30°C and above)
• Thunderstorms and lightning storms in exposed mountain areas
• Unstable weather patterns, particularly Friday afternoon and Saturday

Based on this information and the recommendations of the relevant authorities, we have taken proactive measures to ensure we can deliver a safe and meaningful race experience.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

START: Thursday at 20:00 (unchanged)
ROUTE: You will now run a revised course instead of the original ZUT 100 route. This adjustment avoids the more exposed areas of the original course. The total distance will now be 107 km with 5280M+.
COURSE DETAILS: The revised route offers a challenging and scenic course through the mountains, while keeping you away from the highest-risk areas during the forecast weather window.

IMPACT ON SCORING

UTMB INDEX: This adjusted route will be scored separately from the 100 miler category. The race will be classified under the 100K category.
RUNNING STONES: Running Stones points will be awarded based on the actual course completed. We understand this may be disappointing for athletes who were aiming for 100 miler qualification. We appreciate your understanding.
